Our girl Haylee will be 16 this year! They told us she would never talk. To learn sign language. They told us her behaviors were something that "was just part of it." Being a first time mom and already not knowing what to expect, I felt lost. And alone. Like no one understood. Just trying to get through the day without any incidents. When they say it takes a village, it takes the whole village. We have great friends, and family who have went above and beyond. We have amazing people at the school who have helped guide and love her like their own. Today, she will talk your ears off. She laughs and has friends. She tries to tell jokes, she is kind and considerate. All thanks to everyone who has loved her and helped put the work in to get her where she is today. I want people to know just because she doesnt "look" like she has autism, that it comes in so many different forms. No matter the severity, all people matter. We want to show up and support not just Haylee, but everyone. Being kind is the one thing that is free in this world. And I think its also important for everyone to know they aren't alone in their journey.
