Raising a child with special needs is not something anyone anticipates. As a parent, you hope and pray for their health. When Liam and Stella were diagnosed, I felt guilty and scared. I worried that their opportunities would be limited, but learning about Autism Spectrum Disorder revealed the opposite. They can teach valuable life lessons, even if they are nonverbal. My kids gave me a different perspective on life, and they both need my voice to advocate for them. Kerry Magro said something that stuck with me, “how do I fit into a world that wasn’t built with me in mind” so let me ask you how do you explain to a nonverbal child that the world doesn’t understand you. We as humans need to do better.
